A typical Makalu expedition itinerary spans 50-55 days, beginning with arrival and preparation in Kathmandu, followed by a flight to Tumlingtar, and a challenging trek through Makalu Barun National Park to Makalu Base Camp. The itinerary includes multiple acclimatization days at various stages and a dedicated climbing period of about 30 days for the ascent to the summit of Mount Makalu. The return trek follows a similar path, concluding with a flight back to Kathmandu for departure.
Day 1:
Arrive in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel.
Days 2-3:
Finalize equipment, receive expedition briefings from the Ministry of Tourism, and complete necessary formalities.
Day 4:
Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and drive to Num.
Day 5:
Trek from Num to Seduwa.
Day 6:
Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaon.
Day 7:
Trek to Khongma Danda, a critical point for acclimatization.
Days 8-11:
Continue trekking through various stages like Mumbuk, Nehe Kharka, and Shershong, with scheduled acclimatization days.
Day 12:
Arrive at Makalu Base Camp and prepare camp.
Days 13-43:
Spend approximately 30 days at Makalu Base Camp for further acclimatization, training, and the ascent to the summit of Mount Makalu.
Day 44:
Begin the descent from Makalu Base Camp, trekking to Mumbuk.
